Wolves fall to Hettinger in dual action

Watford City’s varsity wrestling team was shut out, 59-0, by the Hettinger Black Devils in dual action last Thursday and then competed in the New Salem East/West Tournament over the weekend.
This week, the Wolves will wrap up their regular season action as they travel to New Salem on Friday for a dual meet.

Hettinger 59, Watford City 0
With four Watford City wrestlers sick and unable to compete against Hettinger, the Wolves were no match for the Black Devils in dual action last Thursday.
With Coleton Jore, Trevor Kalberer, Keegan Thompson and Josh Rockeman out of Watford City’s lineup, the Black Devils shut out the Wolves, 59-0.
Individual results from the dual were as follows:
106: Logan Gumke was decisioned 11-3 by Chauncey Hughes.
126: Clay Jorgenson was decisioned 15-4 by Trevor Abrahamson.
138: Gus Nelson was decisioned 6-4 by Rodney Vanhoff.
152: Austin Garmann was pinned by Sean Elkins, 4:47.
160: Joe Nelson was pinned by Jeff Abrahamson, 2:58.

New Salem Tournament
Sickness definitely took its toll on the Wolves last week as Watford City was only able to field seven wrestlers at the New Salem East-West Tournament.
But in spite of the lack of wrestlers competing, the Wolves were able to place two individuals, Logan Gumke and Clay Jorgenson, in the two-day event as Gumke took seventh place at 106 pounds and Jorgenson took eighth place at 126 pounds.
Individual results from the tournament were as follows:
106: Logan Gumke was decisioned 13-0 by Lucas Brown (Carrington) and was then pinned by Dalton Jangula (Napoleon) in 3:45. Gumke then pinned Chauncey Hughes (Hettinger) in 3:56. Gumke then pinned Matt Carlson (Bowman County) in 3:56 and Aaron Sandy (Bishop Ryan) in 3:32 to take seventh place.
113: Coleton Jore was pinned by Austin Becker (Napoleon) in 4:08 and was pinned by Patrick Freeman (Carrington) in 0:43 before pinning Kobe Murphy (Standing Rock) in 4:11.
126: Clay Jorgenson was pinned by Austin Kelly (Oakes) in 0:44 before receiving a second round win by forfeit. Jorgenson then was decisioned 11-1 by Carson Koble (Wells County) and decisioned 5-2 by Kyle Schmidt (Bishop Ryan). Jorgenson then pinned Brenden Harrison (Standing Rock) in 4:32 and then decisioned Layton Erickson (Des Lacs-Burlington) 9-1 to take eighth place.
132: Josh Johnson was pinned by Keaton Merck (Bishop Ryan) in 5:02 and by Alex Krebs (Beulah-Hazen) in 4:15.
138: Gus Nelson was decisioned 8-0 by Zach Schafer (Carrington) and was decisioned 8-2 by Colby Tapson (Hillsboro) before coming back to pin Curtis Summers (Beach) in 2:48.
152: Austin Garmann was pinned by Cole Ehrlin (Oakes) in 3:24 before coming back to pin JD Woodbury (Stanley-Powers Lake-Tioga-Ray) in 3:42. In his last match, Garmann was pinned by Zach Berube (Rugby) in 3:27.
160: Joe Nelson was decisioned 5-0 by Colby Steeke (Hettinger) before being pinned by Jordan Bolstad (Hillsboro) in 4:33.
