There’s nothing better than opening the season with a win.
And the Watford City varsity girls softball team was able to enjoy that winning moment on Thursday as the Wolves downed Kenmare-Bowbells-Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, 9-6, to kick off the start of their 2015 season.
Kenmare got on top of the Wolves, 1-0, in the first inning. But a five-run scoring spree in the fourth inning propelled Watford City to the win.
The Wolves added two runs in both the fifth inning and the sixth to seal the 9-6 victory.
Alli Mogen, Karissa Monsen and Avery Sundeen went two of three at the plate for the Wolves.
The Wolves then improved their record to a perfect 2-0 on Friday as Watford City picked up a 10-1 win over Des Lacs-Burlington/Berthold.
Kamryn Grimes struck out 14 batters to lift the Wolves to the win.
Watford City posted six runs in the first three innings with a two-run single by Tarynn Jacobson and an RBI single by Grimes in the second inning to fuel the Wolves’ offense early.
Kara Langerud had the hot bat for Wolves as she went three for five at the plate driving in one run and scoring two runs.
