AS I SEE IT

With the arrival of the McKenzie County Fair this week in Watford City, we can pretty much lay to rest the claim that there is never anything to do around here. While it may seem like a long time ago, it was just three weeks ago that Watford City was alive with people coming home for Homefest Weekend. And last weekend of course, was Arnegard’s 4th of July celebration. And now this week, Watford City is back in the spotlight with the McKenzie County Fair kicking off on Thursday plus the city is also hosting the State Senior Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament.
Call it just another fun-filled week! Because that is what it is going to be with the fair providing three full days of family fun with tons of free shows, youth activities, a petting zoo, a youth rodeo, a draft horse competition, as well as the excitement with a demolition derby and an NDRA Rodeo.
While everyone misses not having a carnival at the county fair, the reality is that carnivals just won’t come to most county fairs. So the task before the Fair Board each and every year is to come up with entertainment and shows that will appeal to young and old fairgoers alike. It’s a hard assignment, but one that the board has been able to accomplish.
So take in all of the activities this week at the McKenzie County Fair.
And when you aren’t out at the fairgrounds, be sure to watch some of the baseball games that are being played at the American Legion baseball field. This is the first time that Watford City has hosted the State Senior Babe Ruth Tournament and the action on the field promises to be intense as teams from across the state play for their chance to possibly advance to the Babe Ruth World Series.
So enjoy all of the activities at the fairgrounds and at the baseball field. It looks like it’s going to be another busy week of fun in Watford City.
