“Speed kills.” That was the motto of the University of North Dakota hockey team under Coach Dean Blais, one of the greatest the sport has ever known. It wasn’t just a slogan. It was a strategy: move fast, play hard, and never let the other side set the pace.
That’s exactly the philosophy North Dakota needs today. Opportunity doesn’t wait. If we sit back, we’ll be spectators while others seize the future.
Nowhere is that clearer than in the conversation about data centers. Personally, I think that term sells short what they really are. We should be calling them intelligence factories. Because that’s what they do - turn data into intelligence, power into security, and ideas into growth.
Think about it. The U.S. government relies on these facilities to keep the nation safe. Private sector giants - Google, Meta, Amazon - need them to fuel everything from cloud computing to AI. Our military depends on them for missile defense, space operations, and the “golden dome” technology that protects against threats from hostile nations. Intelligence factories are as critical to 21st century defense and prosperity as farms and refineries were in the 20th.
