Minneapolis has become the national showcase for what happens when politicians spend years undermining the rule of law - and then scream at the people forced to clean up the wreckage.
Around 2,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been dispatched to Minneapolis to deal with the aftermath of four years of the Biden administration allowing criminals to pour across our borders. Instead of backing law enforcement, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have responded with reckless rhetoric directed at federal officers who are doing the job elected leaders refuse to do.
And Minneapolis has made it even harder.
The city council recently strengthened an ordinance designed to prohibit local resources and employees from aiding federal civil immigration enforcement efforts. City employees are barred from enforcing federal civil immigration laws. They’re discouraged from even asking immigration status except under narrow circumstances. The city limits cooperation with ICE, and the mayor even signed an executive order preventing ICE from using city-owned parking lots. Imagine that: the government actively shielding criminals and obstructing law enforcement - then acting shocked when federal resources are required.
