America’s confrontation with Iran did not begin yesterday. It has been building for nearly half a century and it has been paid for in American blood.

The conflict truly began in 1979 when Iran’s radical regime seized the United States Embassy in Tehran and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. Since then the Iranian regime has repeatedly targeted the United States through terrorism, proxy armies and direct attacks.

One of the deadliest examples came in 1983. A truck bomb destroyed the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The attack killed 241 American service members and injured over 100 including Lance Cpl. John Kinslow of Valley City.

Four Minnesotans were among the fallen. Lance Cpl. John Tishmack of Minneapolis. Lance Cpl. Thomas Lamb of Coon Rapids. Lance Cpl. Kevin Custard of Virginia, Minnesota. Cpl. John Olson of Sabin, Minnesota.
Investigations later tied the bombing to Hezbollah, the Iranian backed terror organization created and funded by Tehran.

The pattern did not stop there.
