This City of Alexander is in the final days of preparation for their annual Old Settlers’ Day festival. Festivities begin on Thursday, Aug. 29, and end the evening of Saturday, Aug. 31.
This year marks the 79th annual festival and organizers anticipate this year to be better than ever.
An organizer for the event, Brittni Hatter, explained some of what makes this event special, saying, “The event brings everyone in the community together at the close of summer and it’s a great way to kick off the start of fall, back-to-school, the end of harvest season and the start of the fall sports season.”
One part of the festival, and where it got its name, is the tradition to honor those who settled the area and fundamentally contributed to creating Alexander as it stands today. This year’s honorees are Harold and Myrna Monson.
