Alexander Public School (APS) District Superintendent Leslie Bieber recently announced that the APS School Board approved the districts long-awaited school expansion project.
The Farmer first covered this expansion project in January 2023. It was reported at the time, that the school district had a student enrollment growth of 550 percent over the previous 15 years, with one-third of that growth occurring between 2018-2023.
At that time, the expansion project was expected to cost approximately $20 million. The APS School Board had reserved $4.5 million in anticipation of the need for expansion in order to accommodate growth and future needs of the school district. Which meant the district was seeking approval for $15.5 million of general obligation bonds in order to begin construction.
Bieber stated that the APS School Board approved a gross maximum price for the construction and renovation at $18,796,689. That amount includes MEP updates to the existing building.
