On June 20, North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley held a press conference to discuss the newly compiled 2023 Crime Statistics report.  He said that while the overall incidents of crimes have decreased, many categories of crimes have increased and the overall number of arrests, more than 29,000 statewide, is up significantly compared to 2022.
The report separates crimes into two categories. The first is Group A, which is crimes against individuals. These include assault, homicide, violent crimes, arson, and human trafficking. These group A crimes were up 0.5 percent over 2022. Group B is made of crimes against the community and include things like driving under the influence (DUI), liquor laws, narcotics, and weapons violations. The Group B offenses also rose, increasing 2.1 percent over 2022 numbers.
