MCF Newsroom Reports
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has opened bids and awarded one of two major projects to widen segments of U.S. Highway 85 to four lanes, a key step in a long-planned expansion funded by the 2025 Legislature.
The first project, bid Nov. 7, covers 5.5 miles from the Long X Bridge through rugged terrain in the Little Missouri breaks to Mile Point 120.3. The work includes grading, hot-mix asphalt paving, aggregate base, culverts, a wildlife crossing, scenic overlooks, a retaining wall, landslide repairs, a median crossover, signing, pavement markings and other incidental items. The low bidder was Park Construction Company from Minneapolis, with a bid of $83,820,375. The engineer’s estimate was $93,716,016. The department awarded the project to Park Construction on November 14, and the contract is currently being processed. The contractor tentatively plans to begin work in April 2026.
