County imposes burn ban: Fire precautions taken as of March 15

A burn ban is in effect for McKenzie County following approval by the county commissioners during their March 15 meeting.
“We try to take the extra step to help our residents in McKenzie County. Especially our elderly population. It’s a level of service I feel they deserve,” says Karolin Jappe, McKenzie County Emergency manager.
While Jappe says there was a time where it wasn’t necessary to activate a burn ban in McKenzie County this early into spring, considering the relentless drought, she now feels it is.
“We never used to have to do this but anymore, we have to,” she says. “I just wanted to get a jump on it this year.”
