County provides school districts with $5 million

McKenzie County school districts received a big, but very welcome surprise on Tuesday, May 18, when the McKenzie County Board of County Commissioners approved sharing $5 million in excess Bankhead-Jones funds with the county’s six school districts.
According to Erica Johnsrud, McKenzie County Auditor/Treasurer, the county annually receives the Bankhead-Jones payments, which are in lieu of tax payments from the federal government. But the county doesn’t always know when the funds will arrive.
