Daytime pursuit in Watford City leads to felony charges

A daytime reckless driving incident coupled with alcohol use resulted in a short but dangerous vehicle pursuit and foot chase for the Watford City Police Department (WCPD) in the early afternoon of Wednesday, February 25, on the city’s east side.
WCPD Sergeant John Hance was on patrol in the area of the Corner Post gas station when he observed an orange Dodge Ram 1500 pickup spinning its tires and accelerating rapidly, which are traffic law violations per North Dakota state law.
A traffic stop was attempted by the sergeant but the operator accelerated and fled from the officer.
During the chase the pickup struck the curb and left the roadway in the 400 block of Hunter’s Run Street near the Family Dollar where traction was lost and the vehicle spun in circles before continuing and entering the parking lot to the dollar store where there were vehicles and pedestrians present.
