District 26 Legislators: Week three of 2025 session

Jeremy Olson
District 26 Representative

The third week of the 69th Legislative Session concluded on Friday, and your District 26 legislators were busy with their committees. For many of us legislators, Friday wasn’t the end of the week. Over the weekend, several stayed in Bismarck to join Governor Armstrong in celebration with the Inauguration Ball. For me personally, dressing up and having a beautiful wife and daughter on each arm made me feel like a pretty special guy.
This week, the legislature has been diligently working on passing numerous housekeeping bills. These bills, primarily submitted by state agencies, are designed to clarify existing laws or make technical corrections. These bills are not glamorous but play a crucial role in ensuring that our legal framework remains clear and functional, thereby facilitating smoother governance and the effective implementation of policies. These bills generally move quickly through the committees and the floor, as they are administrative in nature.
Over the next couple of weeks, many of the more substantiative bills will have completed their initial hearings in their respective committees. We will debate, combine, amend, and drill down to the critical few bills that will be recommended to the full House and Senate for passage. For the bills that pass each chamber, they will move to the other chamber and start the process all over again.
Both the Senate and House Republican Caucus’ have Facebook pages that are updated frequently during the session. We have tips for tracking bills, updates on key legislation, spotlights on legislators, and links to radio and podcast interviews by legislators during the session. For the Senate, the Facebook page is “North Dakota Senate Republicans”. For the House of Representatives, the Facebook page is “North Dakota House Republican Caucus”. For more information on tracking bills and staying up to date with the session, visit the official website on www.ndlegis.gov.
On Saturday, February 8th, the American Legion has its monthly “Coffee with a Vet” at the American Legion Clubhouse across from the airport, starting at 9AM. Some of us legislators will be there to give updates, answer questions in person, or to just hear some of the stories we have from the first few weeks of the session. The Vets at the Legion also have some great stories. Please stop by for a visit and have a “Coffee with a Vet”.
As always, we are here to serve you. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
