“Last weekend, Jan. 12 through the 14, temperatures were extremely cold with wind chills nearing -70 in portions of McKenzie Electric’s service territory. During this time, we experienced a handful of outages related to the winter weather that required line workers to brave the cold and restore power,” said Andrew Spratta, member services coordinator with McKenzie Electric Cooperative (MEC).
According to their company information, “McKenzie Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a rural, not for profit electric cooperative governed by a board of nine member-elected directors serving portions of seven counties in northwestern North Dakota and Montana. The Cooperative’s first lines were energized in 1947, two short years after the Cooperative’s incorporation in 1945. Headquartered in Watford City, N.D., McKenzie Electric provides reliable power to 4,718 members with a total meter count of 13,430 and a peak Megawatts (MW) demand of over 800 MW. As a cooperative dedicated to improving the quality of life of its member owners, McKenzie Electric supports the communities in which it operates, by offering safe, reliable, and affordable electricity.”
