On Thursday, Sept. 29, a 45-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a single vehicle crash approximately three miles north of Cartwright, N.D.
While the crash is still under investigation, North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) reports that the driver was traveling southbound on CR-16 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing him to lose control of his Indian motorcycle.
The driver and motorcycle entered the ditch on the side of the road and rolled before coming to a stop. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was taken by ambulance to Sidney Health Center. He was then life-flighted to a hospital in Billings, Mont.
The crash occurred at 8:08 p.m. and there is a possibility that the lack of ambient light was a factor in the accident. The NDHP would like to urge motorcyclists to always wear a helmet and exercise caution while driving.
The motorcyclist passed away on Friday, Sept. 30, due to injuries sustained in the accident.
