Grassy Butte residents push for support of new community hall

Efforts to build a modern community gathering space in Grassy Butte gained new momentum on Feb. 17, as residents returned to the McKenzie County Commission seeking assistance for a long‑discussed project to replace the aging community hall.

Residents Katie and Laura Dillman appeared before the commission for the second time, outlining expanded goals for a facility that began as a proposal for additional educational space amid a growing number of children in the area. Over the past several months, that idea has evolved into a broader plan for a multi‑use building capable of hosting community events, meetings, and other public functions.

The existing community hall, located at Main Street and Museum Drive, no longer meets the needs of area residents. Commissioners acknowledged that the current structure is aging and functionally outdated, prompting the continued search for a viable replacement.
