Steve Holen, McKenzie County Public School District No. 1, is no stranger to groundbreaking ceremonies. In his 17 years as district superintendent, he has guided the construction of the new Watford City High School, the Fox Hills Elementary School, as well as the remodeling of the Badlands Elementary School and the Watford City Middle School.
But on Monday, July 18, he and other city, county and state dignitaries broke ground on what Holen believes will be one of the most impactful buildings in the community - the Bakken Area Skills Center, which will be located south of the Rough Rider Center.
While Holen says that the district’s other educational facilities are designed to educate youngsters, the skills center will provide much needed training to help meet the workforce needs in the region.
