Hunting the Big Three

Hunters in North Dakota, and more specifically, here in McKenzie County, and its state assigned hunting units for “the big three” saw a great deal of success in 2025 and the application deadline for those same hunting opportunities is fast approaching for 2026 with a deadline of Wed., March 25.

Elk tags for Zone E2, encompassing McKenzie County and the northern portion of Dunn County saw 199 tags issued for the 2025 season. 59 bulls and 75 cows were harvested with that resulting in a 67.34 percent success rate per data released by the North Dakota Game & Fish.


Statewide there was 1.021 licenses with 929 issued. Out of those 929, 576 hunts were successful (280 bulls, 296 cows).
