Increase in DUIs is major concern for officials

Five arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) of a mind-altering substance in one weekend for a town the size of Watford City is very concerning according to local law enforcement. Three of those five arrests were made by only one officer in a single shift, with one of those arrested individuals being charged with a Class C Felony for committing their fourth DUI within 15 years.
For local law enforcement, this trend of has caused a lot of concern.
Numbers from the first two months of 2023 show that the North Dakota Highway Patrol has reported 157 DUI arrests statewide. The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reports 22 DUI arrests on county roads and Watford City Police report 28 on city roads.
