On Nov. 19, 21 and 22, the Watford City High School Masque & Gavel Club, under the direction of Michelle Swenson, will present two one-act plays for the public.
“They are both very funny and along the same lines,” states Swenson.
The plays the club is performing are called Doc, Doc....Goose! by Patric Rainwille Dorn and Law & Order: Nursery Rhyme Unit by Jim and Jame Jeffries.
The first play, Doc, Doc...Goose!, is being performed by the Masque & Gavel Club in competition on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Williston at the Old Armory.
“It will be a day full of plays from around the region and all community members are welcome,” states Swenson.
Swenson states that The Masque & Gavel Club will be competing against Tioga, Ray, Stanley, Kenmare, Burke-Central, New Town and Alexander.
“The top two schools will advance to state in Jamestown on Nov. 25 and 26,” states Swenson.
Last year, the Masque & Gavel Club performed in the state competition with their play, Attack Of The Giant Grasshoppers. Though the team did not win, they considered the chance to compete at the state level a tremendous opportunity. And one they hope to repeat.
“I have a lot of very strong seniors this year and am looking forward to a very good performance,” states Swenson.
Swenson states that getting two plays ready for the public performance in Watford City has been challenging for the students in the club, but they seem up for it.
“It has been a lot of work and fun to get two plays ready at the same time, especially since the kids are involved in so many activities. Then adding two parts in two different plays, sometimes it is hard to keep things straight,” states Swenson. “But they are doing a great job.”
The Watford City High School Masque & Gavel Club will be performing both plays for the public on Tuesday, Nov. 19, Thursday, Nov. 21, and Friday, Nov. 22, in the High School Media Center at 7 p.m. each night.
