The future of emergency response in McKenzie County is currently the subject of intense debate as local officials weigh a proposal to return 911 dispatch services to local control. Following a series of high-profile meetings on March 2 and 3, the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office has been presenting a case for moving away from the state-run dispatch center in Bismarck and back to a local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).
The discussions have moved through three critical governing bodies: the Joint Powers Board (JPA) overseeing the law enforcement center, the Watford City Council, and the McKenzie County Commission.
