Seven local kids have not only competed in the North Dakota State Rodeo, but they placed high enough to go to the National Junior High School Rodeo Association’s National Championship.
Eli Dewitt
Eli Dewitt likes to ride horses and says that it is often hard to find time to practice bronc riding, but he says, “just riding horses is practice enough” and apparently it is because this year the former eighth grader was named the North Dakota State Bronc Riding Champion.
Along with bronc riding, Eli rides bulls. This fearless young cowboy said he has been riding bulls since he was in first grade and that it has never been a scary sport to him.
Eli began bronc riding much later in his 14 years of life, and he says that bronc riding is a bigger challenge than bull riding because there is a little more finesse to the sport. He says it’s that challenge that makes it more fun as well.
