The Long X Liquor Store officially closed its doors on Nov. 30, 2023. The Watford City Community Benefit Association (WCCBA) has run the liquor store since its founding in 1950. The proceeds from the liquor sales have been given by the WCCBA to various causes around the county.
“It has been such a big, giving part of the community for so long,” Bambi Shelley-Servinski shared. “My late husband, Allen Shelley, was the past president of the WCCBA and he believed in it whole-heartedly. When he passed away, our daughter Taryn Beers took over his presidency and was the manager [of Long X Liquor Store] for years, and I have belonged to the WCCBA since 2012. So the closing of this store is almost like a death. It has been something we have believed in and put a lot of heart and soul into.”
She added that the transition from owning and operating the liquor store to operating as a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) has been challenging for the members of the WCCBA.
