The Watford City Housing Authority has started a new program to address the housing crisis facing the area. This program would have single family homes built as part of a pilot program called “Pathway to Purchase.”
According to projections released by Job Service North Dakota, the workforce in the region will grow 30 percent by 2030. According to McKenzie County Economic Development (MCED), research shows “the lack of housing is blocking county growth.”
In a presentation given to the McKenzie County Board of Commissioners (BOCC), “People moved here, started in apartments and anticipated to step into home-ownership after a few years…families have not had the opportunity to do so due to persistent low housing inventory.”
