North Dakota agriculture numbers remain strong despite extreme heat

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released the current crop progress report for North Dakota. The report, compiled by the National Agricultural Statistics Service reported that there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the last week of July.
Only two percent of soybean crops are reported to be in very poor condition, nine percent are in poor condition, and 38 percent are in fair condition. Forty-five percent of the soybeans in the state are in good condition, with the remaining six percent in excellent condition. Soybean development is well behind last year’s numbers, with 61 percent of soybeans are blooming. Last year’ report was 83 percent, and the five year average is 77 percent. Twenty-one percent of soybeans setting pods, which is nearly half of 2023’s reported 40 percent.
Spring wheat crops are on pace for the five-year average, with 92 percent headed. There is a reported 52 percent of the crop coloring, which is three percent above last year. Three percent of the crops are in poor condition, 16 percent are in fair condition, 65 percent are in good condition, and the remaining 15 percent are in excellent condition.
