The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released the current crop progress report for North Dakota. The report, compiled by the National Agricultural Statistics Service reported that there were less than five days suitable for fieldwork during the first week of July.
Thirty-five percent of soybeans across the state are said to be in fair condition, with 56 percent rated as good condition. State-wide only nine percent of the soybean crops were reported as blooming, which is significantly less than last year which had 29 percent of the crop blooming at this time. The amount of soybeans that are blooming is half of the five-year average.
Sixty-seven percent of spring wheat are categorized as good condition, with only 16 percent fair, and 14 percent marked excellent. The percent of jointed spring wheat nearly matches both last year’s numbers, as well as the five-year average, with 87 percent jointed. There are 49 percent of the crops that are headed, which is less than last year’s 60 percent headed rate, which was nearly even with the five-year average.
