Coaches and staff members of the Watford City Oilers Hockey Club are in for a real treat. They recently hired professional hockey player and coach Mario Lamoureux as the team’s hockey director.
“When the Watford City Oilers  reached out and were looking for a little direction for their program, I felt a bit of responsibility,” says Lamoureux.
After running some programs in Watford City for several years now, Lamoureux says he felt invested in the community and now wants to see the game of hockey grow for local hockey players.
“It’s not just this program, but all the programs in the region; you want to see all kids enjoying the sport,” he says.
As majority of correspondence between Lamoureux and coaches and staff members of the Watford City Oilers will be remote, Lamoureux says he will make occasional visits to Watford City to interact with them directly.
“A lot of people talk about having a culture within an organization or a program. One of my main goals is to improve the culture,” he says.
Lamoureux says the ice rink should be a place where players can come and work hard and have discipline and team work.
