The annual property assessment and evaluation for McKenzie County has been completed. This is a necessary process that occurs to ensure fair and accurate taxes are collected on properties within the county.
In North Dakota, it is the responsibility of the county to determine and collect property taxes each year.
Property taxes are determined based on the evaluated property value. To ensure that the appropriate amount of taxes are collected, an evaluation on each property needs to be done to make sure the value listed on county records is within the guidelines set by the state.
If a property is valued to high by the county, the taxes paid on that property would be unfairly, and illegally, higher than the real taxable amount.
