School shooting hoax tests school responses

On Thursday, Oct. 13, high schools across the state of North Dakota received an anonymous automated call saying there was, or would be, an active shooter at the school. It was also quickly discovered to be a hoax.
In Watford City, each of the local schools immediately went into their Secure Hold protocols set up as part of the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The SRP was developed by local school officials after looking at similar plans across the nation and with input from the School Resource Officer (SRO) provided by the Watford City Police Department (WCPD). These are practiced regularly and on Thursday, the results from those regular practices paid off.
