Watford City alumni heading to NASA for research opportunity

Sadie Bone has always been curious. That curiosity, combined with her drive for knowledge and discovering answers, has led her to an internship at NASA. Sadie and her parents, Kevin and Linda Bone, spent her early years in Butte, Mont. before moving to Watford City in 2012. During her early childhood, Sadie kept her parents on their toes by repeatedly jumping off their fence trying to figure out how to fly.
Sadie recalled, “As a young girl, I did what any other child would do at the time. After watching a group of birds soar through the air, I asked myself the simple question, “Can I fly?” In believing that I was fully capable, I began jumping from my backyard fence with an umbrella in hand. After tumbling to the ground one too many times, I was laid up one afternoon due to a most-definitely-related injury; it was during this time that I was captivated by an episode of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) discussing Sir Issac Newton’s three laws of motion. It was quite mind-blowing for a six-year-old, and I was very skeptical of the first law, which is most referred to as “A body at rest will remain at rest until acted upon by an external force.”  I very distinctly remember saying to myself, “Wow, this Newton guy is an idiot, and I am going to be the one to prove him wrong.”
