Watford City legend to be inducted into American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame

A beloved figure in Watford City sports and a tireless advocate for youth baseball, Doug Johnsrud, will be posthumously inducted into the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place during the 5th Annual Doug Johnsrud Memorial Baseball Tournament, held from June 4-8, 2025, at the Rough Rider Center Baseball Field in Watford City. The tournament itself kicks off with an alumni game on Wednesday, June 4, at 7 p.m., featuring the Watford City Walleye Alumni.
Doug Johnsrud was a cornerstone of the Watford City community and a driving force behind American Legion baseball. His dedication extended from his own impressive playing career, where he played five “first string” years for the Watford Legion team, to his later years as an ardent supporter and fundraiser for the program. Each winter, he meticulously handwrote over a hundred letters to businesses and individuals, rallying crucial support for the upcoming baseball season.
