Watford City man facing domestic violence felony charges

Recent incidents involving local law enforcement include the following:

Covington facing felony domestic violence charges
Larry Covington is facing three Class C Felony charges for domestic violence-serious bodily injury; felonious restraint-restrains-adult victim; and terrorizing-adult victim after his arrest.
According to documents filed with Northwest Judicial District, law enforcement was dispatched to the McKenzie County Hospital to assist an individual who was unable to get in the hospital.


Dispatch advised law enforcement that Jane Doe had been injured during a domestic and had a broken jaw. Doe was near the main entrance of the McKenzie County Hospital. When law enforcement made contact with doe she was appeared emotionally distraught and was crying. Officers assisted doe to the McKenzie County Hospital Emergency Room.  While doe was at the hospital registration window she complained of excruciating pain in her head and advised that she was going to vomit.


Law Enforcement was advised that Doe and Covington had a prior history of domestic violence and they have been together for approximately six months.


Doe advised law enforcement that  her, Covington and Covington’s two sons age 14 and 19 were at the residence. Doe was sitting in the middle of the couch between Covington and his 19 year old son. Doe stated that his 19 year old son was intoxicated.


Doe and Covington were on a phone call with a friend when she said something wrong. Doe stated that she did not recall what she had said but Covington had picked her up by the neck and brought her to the bedroom. When he brought her to the bedroom he began to choke her with both hands around the neck restraining air flow. Doe stated that Covington beat her for approximately 15 minutes during which time he choked her approximately five times and struck her in the head and face. Doe stated while Covington was assaulting her she repeatedly tried to get him to stop. Covington prevented doe from leaving the room by grabbing her by the neck and throwing her on the bed several times. While he was assaulting doe he was verbally insulting her and threatening to kill her. Doe stated she thought at one point that she wished he had killed her as she felt her jaw break.


Covington eventually told doe to get her belongings and leave. When doe left, she was unable to get a sweatshirt and had left the residence in a t-shirt.
Doe was treated for multiple facial injuries, including a left mandibular fracture, swelling, bruising and a ruptured blood vessel in her left eye.


Covington’s bond was set at $100,000 and his Preliminary Hearing is set for April 24, 2025.
