Watford City middle schoolers heading to State Spelling Bee
After a year hiatus, due to COVID 19, three Watford City Middle School students and a student from East Fairview emerged as McKenzie County’s top spellers following its annual Spell Bee. The competition under the direction of Carol Kieson, McKenzie County Supt. of Schools, was held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Alexander Public School, hosted by Superintendent Leslie Bieber and her staff.
Kay Richardson, a Watford City seventh grader, and Kahlen Alyadumi, a Watford City eighth grader, will be advancing to the North Dakota Spelling Bee. Skippy McRae, a Watford City eighth grader and Oliver Slade, an East Fairview eighth grader, will serve as alternates in the event if the top two spellers cannot attend the state competition.
The 2022 State Spelling Bee will be held in Bismarck March 21, at the Bismarck Event Center.
