Watford City Woman Facing Felony Child Neglect Charge

Recent incidents involving local law enforcement include the following:
Brittany Layne, 29, of Watford City is facing a Class C Felony charge for Child Neglect-Parental Care and a Class A Misdemeanor Charge of DUI with a Minor - .16% or greater, first offense following her arrest on Dec. 26, 2025.
According to documents filed with the Northwest Judicial District a McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop at approximately 10:37 p.m., on Dec. 26, 2025.
The deputy detected the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle upon making contact with the driver, identified as Layne. The deputy also noticed there were two minor children in the back seat and one minor child in the front passenger seat at the time of the traffic stop.
Through a consented Standardized Field Sobriety test, law enforcement observed a total of six out of six clues indicating Layne was impaired.
Layne submitted to an onsite screening test by Alco-Sensor FST at 10:59 p.m., that resulted in a .187% and she placed under arrest for DUI.
According to the affidavit, Layne requested to speak to an attorney following her arrest.
Layne submitted to a Intoxilyzer 8000 Chemical Breath Test at approximately 12:24 a.m., the result of that test sowed her impairment to be at .163%
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2025.
