A new study shows the enrollment for McKenzie County Public School District No. 1 will continue to have slow and steady growth over the next 10 years. But the lack of single-family homes in Watford City is going to be a major limiting factor for that growth.
During the district’s board meeting on Monday, Jan. 10, Rob Schwarz, CEO of RSP, told board members the projections show that the district will see its current enrollment of 1,774 students increase to over 2,100 students by the start of the 2026-27 school year and then slowly increase to around 2,700 students by the start of the 2031-32 school year.
Last year, Schwarz had projected that the district would have an enrollment of 3,000 students in 10 years. But because of the lack of new housing in the community in the last two years, they have lowered their enrollment growth projections.
