Funeral services for Barbara I. Strickland, 65, of Williston, N.D., were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2010, at New Hope Wesleyan Church in Williston. Pastors Chris Swarthout and Tom Karp officiated. Cremation followed the services, and inurnment will take place at Schafer cemetery in Watford City at a later date. Barbara Irene Strickland was born Oct. 29, 1944, to Norman and Helen (Schmidtke) Ross at Williston, N.D. She was raised and educated in Watford City, N.D. She moved with her mother to Mesa, Ariz., for a time and then returned to North Dakota.
On Oct. 3, 1964, Barbara married Edwin Strickland at Watford City. The couple made their home in Alexander, N.D., where they raised their family. In 1986 they moved to Williston, where they have resided since.
Barbara enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and was always available to care for them when needed. She enjoyed their many family gatherings and was so proud of her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, of Williston; sons, Kirby (Anita) Strickland of Alexander, and Eddy (Bree) Strickland of Williston; daughter, Kim Vigness of Williston; 14 grandchildren, Derek, Jesse, Heidi, Teena, Paige, Kirsten, Austin, Jaden, Jesse, Alex, Stephanie, Ashley, Amanda and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Jesse, Zach, Michael, MaKenna and Dakota; brothers, Robert (Florence) Ross of Watford City, and Jeff Ross of Williston; and sister, Donna (Dale) Lysaker of Williston.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Helen Ross.
