Burial took place at Schafer Cemetery, Watford City, N.D. Friends may share memories and condolences with the family at www.fulkersons.com
Delores Mae was born Jan. 16, 1931, the daughter of Nathaniel and Margaret Sauer, in Burt, N.D. She was raised in Burt and Mott with her three older siblings. De attended and graduated from Mott Public School in 1948, and then spent a year at the Chicago Evangelistic Institute. After leaving Chicago, she returned to Mott to work at the Commercial Bank and later at the family grocery store.
De married her high school sweetheart, Delbert (Del) Schafer, on Sept. 17, 1951, in Mott. They spent the next two years apart as Del was serving those years in Korea with the U.S. Army. During that time, De was employed at Bismarck First National Bank from 1951 to 1954. She worked until the birth of their daughter, Denae.
De & Del moved to Watford City in March, 1959, where they worked with his parents, who owned Schafer’s Super Valu. De was a loving homemaker and cherished her time with her children and grandchildren.  She taught Sunday School during her children’s younger years and also enjoyed leading ladies Bible studies for 35 years. De was also privileged to share her faith in Jesus Christ with the residents at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home during chapel time over many years.
Among De’s many talents and joys were ceramics, gardening, traveling, reading, music, singing, and spending time with her family and friends.  She will be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes, her bright smiles, her loving heart, gentle spirit, and beautiful soul. Her laughter was a source of joy, and there was kindness and compassion always found in her embrace. An amazing wife and mother, she was an example of true love and deep faith.
Blessed to have shared in her life are her husband, Del Schafer; her three daughters, Denae (David) Hoffmann of Watford City, Dawn (Todd) Schock of Bismarck, and Tracy (Steve) Yoder of Uniontown, Ohio; her sister, Gertrude Woody of Fresno, Calif.; and brother, Danny Sauer of Centennial, Colo.; her grandchildren, including Cia (Jayson) Gronneberg, Jana Hoffmann, Whitney, Eric, Noah and Luke Yoder, Nate Yancey and Brandon, Paige, and Parker Schock; four great-grandchildren, Emmee, Hunter, Jaxon and Jersey Rae Gronneberg; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
De was a very devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She fulfilled God’s plan for her life as she enjoyed sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. De was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Margaret Sauer of Mott; and sister, Alvina Trousdale of Mott.
