Garret Swensrud

Funeral services for Garret Dale Swensrud, 38, of Watford City are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City, N.D., with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Colleen Ninneman and Caroline Schwartz. Casketbearers are: Tyler Swensrud, Cole Loomer, Jayden Vaupel, Sy Nordeng, Josh Ferrari, Sterling, Ross and Jason Swensrud, Greg Swensrud, Bailey Uran, Jace Uran, Blake Wheeler, and Evan Wheeler.  Interment will be at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the United Cemetery, Tioga, N.D., under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City, N.D. Garret was born on Aug. 8, 1972, in Sidney, Mont., the son of Dale and Valerie “Val” (Mortenson) Swensrud. He grew up and graduated from Watford City High School. Garret attended Bismarck State College where he received an Associates Degree in Power Plant and Power Processing. Garret worked in the oilfield doing various jobs.
Garret loved fishing, hunting, watching the Pittsburg Steelers, and wrestling. He loved his two sons, Tyler and Jayden, most of all. Garret will be remembered as a genuine and caring man who rested in God’s hands as he battled many years with a traumatic brain injury.
Garret died Friday, July 15, 2011, as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident at Watford City, N.D.
Garret is survived by: his two sons, Tyler and Jayden, Watford City, N.D.; his parents, Dale and Val Swensrud, Watford City, N.D.; his brothers, Darin (Charlotte) Swensrud, Williston, N.D., and Brock (Jami) Swensrud, Dickinson, N.D.; his nephews, Zane, Brennan, and Rylen; his niece, Libby; his grandmother, Jeanette Mortenson, Tioga, N.D.; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his grandfathers, Elgin Mortenson and Gay Swensrud; his grandmother, Mildred Swensrud and his uncle, Clyde Mortenson.
