Gloria Mandal

Gloria J. Mandal, 88, passed away Feb. 7, 2015, in Salem, Ore. She was born Feb. 27, 1926, to Williams John “Scotty” and Annie Hawkins of Watford City, N.D.
Gloria graduated from Watford City High School and married Henry Mandal in 1946. They later divorced, and he preceded her in death in 2003.
They raised wheat, oats, corn, Herefords and Angus, milk cows, and children on a ranch southwest of Watford City for 22 years before moving to Woodburn, Ore., in 1968. In Oregon, Gloria worked for the state in Salem at the Fairview Home for Developmentally Disabled. After retiring from Fairview, she worked for another 15 years as the bookkeeper for the Eagles Club in Woodburn.
Gloria was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, as well as a top-notch whist player. She enjoyed traveling, cruises, and hanging out with her family. She was an amazing woman of faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Hirning of Yreka, Calif.; a son, Michael Mandal of Woodburn, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Ed, Connie, and Brad Mandal, Diana and Monica Hirning, Susan, Peter, and Karl Mandal; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Joyce Huckins of Salem, Ore.; and nieces and nephews, Sean Moen, Kathleen Duncan, Joann Butts, Gary Zellner, and Scott, Steve, and Ron Hawkins. Gloria was predeceased by her sons, Douglas in 1982, and Curtis in 1999, as well as her brothers, Bud, Don and Vern Hawkins.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, Feb. 12 at Unger Funeral Chapel in Mt. Angel, Ore.
