James Dean Johnson was born at Williston, N.D., Sept. 1, 1957, the son of Irvin and Darlene (Aagvik) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm south of Arnegard, N.D., in Ellsworth Township, McKenzie County and educated through his elementary years at Arnegard. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith and raised in a loving family. He was tagged early in life with the nickname, Peanut. That name he answered to and was most familiar to many of his closest friends. After the sixth grade, Peanut attended and graduated from Watford City High School with the Class of 1976. While in high school he excelled in wrestling. Soon after high school Peanut sought work in the oil fields and worked first as a roughneck and eventually a driller before that boom came to an end.
He was once married to Melodie Thompson and together they raised three daughters, Taneeka, Jayme, and Austin.
Peanut was currently living in Watford City and was a self employed carpenter in the area. He could do most anything in the building and trades and has built some beautiful homes in the area.
Peanut was a member of Garden Lutheran Church. He enjoyed cars, along with the company of his friends and family. He loved people and sharing his smile and conversation with his friends.
Peanut died in an automobile accident Friday, July 4, 2014, south of Arnegard, N.D.
He is survived by his mother, Darlene Johnson, of Watford City, three daughters, Taneeka, of Watford City, Jayme, of Grand Forks, N.D., and Austin (Michael), of Grassy Butte, N.D., three brothers; Gerald (Patty) Johnson, of Powell, Wyo., Steven (Susan) Johnson, of Bismarck, N.D., Justin (Monica) Johnson, of Reeder, N.D., three sisters; Rayleen (Tim) Kleppen, of Bozeman, Mont., Kimberly (Les) Hilton, of Custer, S.D., and Joani Odden, of Minot, N.D., and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Irvin in 1984 and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
