Lorraine Baye
Lorraine Baye, 92, of Watford City, N.D., peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the McKenzie Health Hospital in Watford City, N.D., with family by her side.
Lorraine was born Sept. 20, 1931, to Clyde and Victoria (Vicki) McCarty in Watford City, N.D. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Truman (Pat) Baye. There was nothing in their marriage that could not be settled by a cribbage game. Even first thing in the morning they would play a game and whoever lost would have to make the bed. They loved dancing together and looked so beautiful twirling on the dance floor any chance they got.
They moved to Riverdale, N.D., the following year; it was here that their first daughter, Carlotta was born. The following year they moved back to Watford City, where their other three children Linda, Wayne and Kirk joined them. She loved all her children. Lorraine and her daughters were like the Three Musketeers: if you saw one of them the other two were right behind, they traveled everywhere together.
In 1958, the family moved to Charleson, N.D., to live in the Amerada Hess camp. While living there, Lorraine loved to go to the river and fish with her friends; even when she had work to do at home, she couldn’t resist heading to the river to fish instead.
1966 was the year the family moved back to Watford City where they raised their children and Lorraine resided until her passing.
Baye, as she was often called, loved following all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to any event they were in. If the wheels on the car were moving, she was going, it didn’t matter if it was wrestling, hockey, baseball, 4-H, or rodeo, she was not going to miss watching them.
Lorraine loved playing any card or dice game you can name. It did not matter to her if she won or lost (there is a record book to prove it), she just loved playing and once you started playing with her, you had better be ready to sit for a while, especially cribbage, because she would not want to quit.
Sitting on her patio enjoying the company of family and friends was one of Lorraine’s favorite pastimes - she couldn’t wait for warmer weather to admire her flowers and grow her tomatoes each year.
She was a member of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary for over 60 years.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Carlotta Berdahl and Linda Baye of Watford City; sons, Wayne (Liz) Baye of Whitewood, S.D., and Kirk (Barb) Baye of Shelton, Wash.; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Clyde and Vicki; husband, Pat Baye; sister, Lenora Brown; brother, Eugene McCarty; and son-in-law, Alfred Berdahl.
Celebration of Life Services are Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Watford City, N.D., with Ricky Lawlar officiating. A luncheon will follow for a time of fellowship and sharing. Lorraine will be laid to rest at the Schafer Cemetery in Watford City, N.D., at a later date.
