Maxine Gullickson

Maxine K Gullickson, 95, of Sparks, Nev., formerly of Watford City, N.D., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at the Morningstar Senior Living in Sparks, Nev.
Maxine was born on April 21, 1921, in Shafer, N.D. to Lawrence and Lydia (Remele) McMaster. She lived on a farm 2½ miles from Watford City until she was six, then moved into town and grew up working in her father’s Red Owl Store. She loved school, was an honor student, and math was her favorite subject. Her stated goal was to be the best in everything she did.
She and Mel Gullickson, from Rawson, N.D., met in 1940 and they were married May 15, 1943, in Miami while Mel was serving in the Navy during WWII.
Maxine retired from the US Bureau of Mines in Reno, Nev. She and Mel then travelled extensively and she continued to perfect her skills at Bridge. They moved into Morningstar Senior Living in July 2012. Mel passed away in January 2013 on his 91st birthday.
She leaves behind her son, Larry Gullickson (Colleen) of Idaho; daughter, Carol Arp (Drew) of Wash.; and grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Arp.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Don and Jack; and sisters, Vi and Gladys.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m, Saturday, May 27, 2017, at First Lutheran Church Watford City. Burial will be in Schafer Cemetery following the service.
