Monty Sondrol

Monty Wayne Sondrol, 75, passed away on Feb, 14, 2026, at Missouri Slope nursing home in Bismarck, N.D.
Monty was born at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Williston, N.D., on Aug. 9, 1950, to Alpha (Dexter) and Leroy Sondrol. Monty was raised in Watford City with his siblings until his parents divorced. He then moved to Williston where he graduated Williston High School.
Monty served in the United States Army as a combat medic from January 1970, to August 1971, during which time he was deployed to Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division.
He returned to Williston after his military service where he met Jolene Garman. Monty and Jolene were united in marriage in 1972 and although this relationship wasn’t permanent, they had two children together, Tiffany and Christopher.
In 1974, Monty graduated North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton with a degree in mechanical drafting. After college, Monty worked various jobs throughout Minnesota and North Dakota.
Monty enjoyed listening to music, playing cribbage, riding his motorcycles, and fishing. Special thanks to Monty’s younger brother James Sondrol for taking care of him these last few years.
Monty is survived by his daughter, Tiffany (Steve) Johnson; son, Christopher (Nicole) Sondrol; grandsons, Erick and Kasen Johnson and Landon Sondrol; his sister, Patricia (Arden) Sanford; brother, James Sondrol; brother-in-law, James Sogard; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Denise Sogard; and brother, Larry Sondrol.
