The Watford City boys golf team shot a 332 to take first place at the Regional Golf Tournament last Thursday in Stanley.
“Kenmare and Lewis & Clark left the door open for someone to take the region championship,” stated Scott Wisness, boys’ head coach. “And my golfers stepped up and did what they had to do.”
Colter Maki led Watford City with an 18-hole score of 78.
“I am very proud that Alex Hansen and Colter Maki made All Region,” stated Wisness. “Devyn Marquardt and Cody Johnson both had a great day, scoring 87s,” states Wisness.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Alex Hansen with an 80; Charles Villanueva, 93; Cody Johnson, 87; Devyn Marquardt, 87;  Jonathan Dunn, 114; and Jake Rogness, 118.
“The boys were pretty excited.  This is the first time in quite a few years that Watford City has won the region championship,” stated Wisness.
The rest of the team scores were Kenmare, 343; 3. Lewis & Clark, 344; 4. Stanley, 345; 5. Tioga, 346; 6. Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, 372; 7. Des Lacs-Burlington, 377; 8. Divide County, 408; 9. New Town-Parshall, 439; 10. Bowbells, 468; 11. Ray, 483.
“We are looking forward to State and hope that we carry our momentum from Regionals to the Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan,” stated Wisness.
The top 10 individual finishers were Sam Carlson, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood; 2. Ryan Ross, Lewis & Clark, 77; 3. Mitchell Fifer, 77; 4. Colter Maki, Watford City, 78; 5. Zak Brown, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, 79; 6. Jaeden Jenson, Lewis & Clark, 79; 7. Alex Hansen, Watford City, 80; 8. Hunter Borud, Stanley, 80; 9. Kass Longie, Tioga, 81; 10. Keegan Maruskie, Powers Lake, 81; 10. Hunter Harris, Kenmare, 81.
“We saw Trinity at the Bowman Invitational earlier this year and they are capable of shooting a score close to 300.  Winning the Regional was a goal we set for our team, but we are hoping to make some noise at State,” says Wisness.
