Comets Fall in Playoffs

Alexander’s memorable 2025 football season came to an end on their home field with a 36-22 loss to Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter last Saturday afternoon. The Imperials got the ball first and set the tone with a near perfect opening drive. With 6:23 left in the first, Imperial QB Bryce Schneider found Carson Piatz for a five-yard touchdown pass. Alexander could not get a first down on their first possession and punted the ball back to Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter. Their second drive also ended with a touchdown pass from Schneider, this time to Jackson Piatz and it was 14-0 after one quarter. The second quarter followed the same trend with Schneider throwing two more touchdown passes, a 57-yarder to Jackson Piatz and an 11-yarder to Brooks Grunefelder with six seconds left before halftime.

“I’ll be the first one to tip the cap to Napoleon,” said Alexander head coach, Trey Jacobson. “They showed up to play with a great game plan and a talented group of kids. I felt that they brought a combination of offensive scheme and playmakers that we hadn’t seen all year prior and it took us awhile to adjust to, which resulted in us not being able to get off the field enough as a defense in the first half and left us in a hole we were unfortunately unable to come back from.”

The second half went much better for the Comets, but N-G-S did enough to maintain their lead and hang on for the win. Jacob Novak, who missed about half the season with an elbow injury, found Kaiden Culbertson in the end zone to get the Comets on the board with 11 seconds left in the third. This score got the game back to normal timing rules. The two-point conversion made it 30-8 going into the fourth quarter.
