Comets Complete Perfect Regular Season
After an emotional win over Divide County last week, Alexander was 48 minutes away from perfection as they hit the road to Dunseith last Thursday evening. The No. 4-ranked Comets completed the task with a 44-14 win. “The main message was to enjoy ending the regular season unbeaten,” said Alexander head coach, Trey Jacobson. “Only 4 teams had the luxury of being able to experience it this year and we were one of them, pretty special feeling. I told the boys that the coolest part of going 9-0 is that nobody can take it away from them. They’ll be able to look back years from now and be proud of what they accomplished this year. Couldn’t have picked a more deserving group of kids.”
Alexander jumped out to a quick 16-0 lead in the first quarter which proved to be enough. Alexander used a balanced offensive attack against the Dragons, scoring two touchdowns through the air, three on the ground from Rope Simonson, and one more on special teams thanks to a kickoff return touchdown by Jullian Gant. The defense also did its job again, forcing four Dunseith turnovers.
The Comets’ dynamic offense will be tough to prepare for by their opponents this postseason. Alexander averaged 269 rushing yards per game through their nine regular season games and scored 33 touchdowns. The passing offense averaged 87 yards per game and totaled 13 touchdowns. Over the last two games, Alexander passed for 371 of their 787 season total. The passing game is rounding into form as the postseason approaches.
