Comets volleyball season comes to an end at District Tourney

Alexander saw its 2015 volleyball season come to an end at the District 15 Volleyball Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 5, as the Comets fell to Trinity Christian, 3-0, in the regional qualifier game.
The Comets, who hadn’t fielded a varsity volleyball team in 11 years, opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Parshall, before falling to Watford City, 3-0, in the semifinals.
“I’m so proud of the way the girls played,” stated Tana Turcotte, Comets’ head coach. “They improved so much the entire season. And we had the chance to advance to the Region Tournament, but we just couldn’t close out the final two games against Trinity Christian.”
Alexander 3, Parshall 2
Alexander could very well have pulled off the upset of the day during the opening round play of the District 15 Volleyball Tournament as the Comets knocked off Parshall, the No. 3-ranked team in the tournament, 3-2.
The Braves defeated the Comets the first two games, 25-13 and 25-23, before Alexander came alive offensively. The Comets would take the next two games, 25-22 and 25-19, before winning the fifth game,15-13.
Abigail White had 16 service aces to lead the Comets, while Nicole Hall had four kills.
Individual statistics for Alexander from the match were as follows:
Kills: Nicole Hall, 4; Sierra Simonson, 2; Paige Bennett, 2.
Assists: Andrina Turnquist, 4; Tianna Dwyer, 4.
Aces: Abigail White, 16; Turnquist, 9; Hall, 7; Bennett, 6.

Watford City 3, Alexander 0
Alexander was no match for a hard-hitting Watford City team as the Comets fell to the Wolves, 3-0, in Tuesday’s semifinal action of the District 15 Tournament. The Wolves downed Alexander by scores of 25-7, 25-9 and 25-14.
Paige Bennett led the Comets with two service aces and one kill in the loss.
Individual statistics for Alexander from the match were as follows:
Kills: Paige Bennett, 1; Nicole Hall, 1.
Assists: Andrina Turnquist, 2.
Aces: Bennett, 2; Abigail White, 2; Tianna Dwyer, 1.

Trinity Christian 3, Alexander 0
Alexander gave Trinity Christian a run for the money in Thursday’s regional qualifier game of the District 15 Volleyball Tournament.
While the Crusaders took the first game, 25-17, the Comets had their chances in the second and third games in pursuit of their second tournament upset.
“We led in the final two games,” stated Turcotte. “We just couldn’t close the door when we had the chance.”
The Comets fell to the Crusaders, 25-22, in the second game and then lost the third game, 29-27.
Nicole Hall led the Comets with nine kills and 11 service aces.

Assists: Tianna Dwyer, 7; Andrina Turnquist, 6.
