Watford City hosted the Coyotes in a non-conference match up on Monday evening and lost to Williston 72-33. Williston outscored Watford City in every quarter, but the second quarter was the most drastic with a 27-3 difference. “They’re an impressive team,” said Watford City head coach, Tom Dwyer. “We knew that coming in. They get out in transition very well. They play well in both half court defense and half court offense. They’re really good shooters across the board.” It was a big bounce-back win for Williston after losing a conference road match up at Bismarck Century in their previous game.

After a perfect 5-0 start to the season including an emotional 53-43 win over Division A  No. 1 Turtle Mountain, this was the first loss for Watford City. “I think we lost our composure in that second quarter,” said Coach Dwyer. “There’s always moments in every season where things don’t go your way. In those moments, you have to figure out a way to stay composed and to keep fighting and be resilient. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do that.”

While it was a tough loss, Coach Dwyer hopes it is a learning experience: “What I am happy about is that we can learn from this and make sure we keep doing the little things like communicating on defense that help you stay in the game and give yourself an opportunity to come back. When you do get down by 10 points or so, you don’t usually get it back in the next five plays. I felt like we were trying too hard to get the lead back too quickly and forced some things offensively. Williston deserves a lot of credit for how they played.”
