Cross country teams compete at Dickinson

Watford City’s varsity girls cross country team took seventh place in the junior varsity division at the Dickinson Cross Country Meet on Saturday, while the boys varsity team took 12th place in the junior varsity division.
This week, the Wolves will be competing in the Bowman Meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2 and then traveling to Glendive on Tuesday, Sept. 7 for a 4:15 p.m. meet.
Kristen Stenehjem paced the Watford City girls with a 17th place finish with a time of 17:59. Other Watford City runners placing were Tara Loomer, 37th, 18:50; Kara Wold, 38th, 18:53; Bessie Schmitz, 42nd, 19:06; and Jayme Johnson, 51st, 19:19.
Dustin Kleppen led the Watford City boys with a 62nd place with a time of 22:06. Also placing for the Wolves was Logan Gumke, 75th, 22:54; John Meuchel, 84th, 24:11; and Reid Brown, 86th, 24:18.
“The kids ran well,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves’ head coach. “They are working hard in practice, and after this meet, we know now how much time we have to take off by the time we get to State.”
The Watford City junior high girls took sixth place at the meet with Addison Sundeen placing in 11th place with a time of 11:06, while Lea Arndt placed 22nd with a time of 11:33.
